Updates on VDCN and the future of road-usage data.
This section will host updates on VDCN’s progress, consultations, pilot projects and thought leadership on the future of road-usage charging and mobility data in the UK.
Why a national vehicle data backbone matters.
The UK faces a fundamental challenge as fuel duty declines. Without a secure, trusted source of vehicle usage data, any new road-usage charging regime risks being fragmented, unfair or impossible to administer. VDCN aims to provide the missing infrastructure layer.
Designing for privacy from day one.
Vehicle data is sensitive. VDCN’s architecture is designed on the assumption that telemetry about movement must be protected – with encryption, access controls, minimisation and transparency for drivers and keepers.
